Default Alice Paint! - 07-23-2010, 02:58 PM

About 3 hours ago I got the idea to make a program that lets you draw in different colors like you can in MS Paint. I started to think how to do it, and now I have finally completed it!! There are over 900 objects overall (30x30 grid), but it's all made out of cubes so it is a small file size. It took me about 2.5 hours to make this (1.5 of which just to create the grid of cubes).

Any bigger of a grid would risk crashing Alice (and losing my mind trying to make it), so it is not going to be bigger than 30x30. I had a few other ideas to make this program even better, but I don't think that I am going to do it. Its not a game really, but its a great example of the program ability that Alice can do (I like making small programs like this rather than games (you probably know this if you have seen my previous work)).

Tell me what you think or if there are any bugs/glitches. Do you like it?

I will download it soon, but it sounds like you put a lot of work into it. I made a 25x30 grid with flat tiles for something, but I made the model by just using the sketchup duplication function and importing it. You seem to have done quite a lot!

its brilliant, like hello macau painting bit, but with more colours and I think its bigger. Some of the color blocks are a bit out of alignment, but its still brilliant.

Very nice job Dameria. THis is great. Now, could you try making the pixels smaller too? Also, i really wanted to use the fill can. You click and the whole backround changes to one color. Could you do that, like real windows Paint? Make it all the colors that are the same change like Windows Paint.

YEAH! the image works

I can't make the pixels any smaller sorry. It is already at 30x30 (over 900 objects) and any smaller of pixels would make the game unable to save.

The fill function would be pretty hard to do, but as I think about it now, I might be able to do a chain reaction type of thing where if the closest cube to the one you click is the same color, then it changes accordingly, and then the same function happens with that cube until it reaches a cube that is a different color. I might work on that, but not today. Someone else can try it if they want (but please show me before posting it).

Congrats Dameria, that is an AMAZING Alice world!

Wow...900 cubes. How did you place all of them?

It is a very nice program. Keep up the good work!
