If you want to add something simple, make it a super weapon, like an energy overload or something. All that would require is a semi-transparent sphere which expands then contracts when you press a button and activates the damage methods of all enemies who touch it. You'd also need some way to limit it's use, like a charge bar that fills with each enemy KO or only three uses per level or something.

Why don't you think you need a lock-on? (Just curious)

I don't think that I'll need a lock on system because I don't want the game to be too easy. I think that if you press a button and it locks onto the enemy for you, then what is the point of moving around?

I could add a weapon like that in grenade form. Like the power drain from halo. I was actually thinking of adding a frag grenade, but an energy grenade sounds so much cooler.

The problem with not havng a lock on in this kind of game is that you can't move your player while moving the camera separately.

Think about this: if you are perfectly aimed at the bad guy and shoot at him, he gets hit and retaliates. Now you have 2 options: take the hit and keep firing from your nicely aimed spot, or dodge and take the time to re-situate yourself meanwhile probably getting shot at some more, starting the process all over again.

Well I added a quick turn in there so that you can make very fast turns to the left and the right. I can also add a role feature like I did in the first Warzone.

Alright, I guess I could see that being part of the challenge. So long as it's not too hard to aim at enemies and there are no elevation changes in the game whatsoever (you can't turn backward or forward in walkaround or sniper mode, so enemies would have to be CONSTANTLY level with you).

I don't see the command in V5, so are you going to add the dodge roll in later?

In this game I have to keep the enemies level with the character at all times if I also want to include collision detection. If there are any enemies above you, and you lock onto them, if you start walking forward you will move up in the air. But if I get rid of the thing that tells the arrow keys to move the person, then there will be no collision detection. I might add the role feature in the next version in place of the quick turn that I have now. It took me a while to make rolling work in the first one, but shouldn't be a problem at all now. I'm a fast learner

The only hitch with that is that you'd also have to keep the enemies about the same size as the player. otherwise, they'll be shooting at legs.
Also, I think you could still have a lock-on without having to turn the camera at strange angles. just have the crosshair and gun turn towards the enemy instead of the whole camera, leave that up to the user. It'd be a little unorthodox, but it'd work.

If you can't dodge, there should be a block/shield button then. Maybe it could have a power bar to it that, when it runs out, drains your health or just deactivates.

Well, IDK, at this point I don't know what I will add and what I wont. I'm trying to way out the pros and cons.

Pros:
Can have bigger enemies (not shooting at their legs)
Can have enemies on different levels
Makes the game easier

Cons:
A hell of a lot of work

Lol, I don't know. I might make a new world and run some test to see how I could implement something like that. It could definitely add more variety to the game. Let's get some more opinions in here. What does everyone else think? Should I add an auto targeting system into the game? (Since this might take a while for people to answer, I'll start doing some tests) Also, If you are locked onto someone, how would you move left and right? Wouldn't you run into the same problem that you mentioned earlier?

One more thing, the gun is a bad guy robot, so how would I have it point at a person? If I have them point at a person, the gun will turn sideways.

Well the point at problem's easy to solve, just add a shape in there that is pointed in the direction of the front of the gun, then have the gun set it's vehicle to the shape during lock-on and have the shape point to the object (my TryAgain world makes use of this, check it for more details).

As far as the work portion of it, well like I said I'm writing one right now and you know I'd be happy to help by sharing code and ideas with you.

if you are locked onto someone, you'd have to strafe left and right. however, this does make you lose your collision control. This is a bit of a problem...let me think about it for awhile as I've just run into that problem myself in my Lock-on world.
