I'm wondering what program you can use to make your own character for free

Alice has character builders in it already. Just go to the 'add objects' view, and open the 'people' folder. The last two are 'hebuilder' and 'shebuilder'. Can't say how good they are, though, because I've never used them. Also, you can use Blender and Google SketchUp (I think that's what its called) to make models and import them into Alice, but that can be a tricky process that I can't help you with, but the info is here somewhere if you really want to try it.

Well, actually there have been many examples showing that object import is not hard. Just read the tuts.

LOL. I tried to learn blender but I hate the interface so I gave up.

Yah, i dont like blender either. Just use Alices then set vehicle objects to the person. That works

Lol Blender is like such a hard program I love 3ds Max But I cant afford it anymore but I used to use it to "test" our two 180lb. robots!

And I really did build two 180 lb. robots! Just tell me if you want me to make an album of the pictures taken!
