Exclamation Unable to open a file - 10-08-2010, 07:32 AM

So, I go to school today and try to open my Alice porject, which is due today. And guess what? Today, of all days, it's unable to open. It fails to load after attempting to load 3D Text. Is there some easy way to fix this? I need it fixed by tuesday at the latest

What did you do to the 3d text? You didn't set the extrusion to 0 did you?

Also, theres a way to fix it, but its nasty and I've only done it successfully like once. You need to extract the contents of the .a2w file (I use 7-zip to do this), then remove the 3d text and any references to it, then zip it up and try running it in Alice.

I don't think I did. I can open it at home and remove it, but I don't know if that will work till tomorrow. But why would that make it impossible to open?

Division, probably. Alice uses math and pictures of flat text to make 3d text, but when the extrusion is zero, it's dividing by zero (probably) and cannot load the text itself when it's asked to re-draw it upon opening the world.

Thus, you have a problem element which causes Alice to not open the file, even if you intend to remove said problem element.

Stupid, eh?

Ok, now I am certain it is not set to zero, but it still wont open! My computer studies teacher is unhappy. I may have to take the 3D text out completely and risk not getting as good a mark.
All the text is is a variable for an objects height above the ground. Is it maybe because of the variable?

Post your world and we can try to fix it. No guarantees, though.
