Make the vehicle property work correctly?

I am trying to use the vehicle property. I have the mama object with a magnet in her hand. I have set the vehicle property for the magnet to mama's left hand, but when I move mama to the left the magnet moves left, but it moves away from mama. Can anyone help?

Thanks for you help! Ok. So, I tried to do this with a monkey and a ball, and the attachment is what I got. Can you show me what I am doing wrong?

Don't see anything "wrong" - the ball moves with the monkey. You do need to initially place the ball where you want it with respect to the monkey - that relative position will always stay the same unless you specifically move the ball by itself. (It will then stay in it's new relative postion with respect to the monkey.)
