Lightbulb Video Export Problems with Alice 2.2 - 09-22-2011, 11:55 AM

I've been using the Video Export feature extensively in my classrooms this year.

Problems:

Sounds - Alice 2.2 generally will export sounds into the quicktime movie. Our problem is that when we convert MOV to FLV we lose all but one sound. This happens when people try to upload the MOV to YouTube as well. Seems that Alice puts every sound into it's own track.

Light - If you completely make the scene dark (turn off ambient light, directional light, etc) Export Video will either stop at this point, or simply skip the next 10 seconds.

Billboards - Not sure why but Export Video has a major problem with some GIF billboards. We tried various formats but couldn't figure out why Alice hates exporting.

I think the best solution is to use FRAPS which reliably records the screen and sound.

Actually, use Camtasia Studios. It is better than fraps in every way. It records great, you can do video effects, cursor effects, texts, an you can record your screen in various ways. Plus, if you have it on the right setting, it runs around 30 frames a second, which in anycase with free programs out there....is very good.

It's horrible. It lags it's a memory hog and you can hardly make a well edited video on it without the program crashing. It's really only good for recording.

Camtasia? Yah right. It's your computer that is the problem.

My i7 with 6 gb of ram is fine, it's just that I can't record halo, left 4 dead, or any of those with camtasia. When editing it's just like the old windows movie maker, it freezes up when I try making stop motion.

I am not able to recreate any of your video export problems. Can you please provide us with your alice world or at least a gif file that you are sure will cause the problem. Thanks.
