Yeah so I have Vista and really would apreciate a text to speech thing. It needs to be free!! and preferably export to an audio file that alice supports thanks!

Guess you could give this a try. Click the blue link to download it. It's only a 30 day trial, though, so work fast.

Question 07-15-2010, 06:55 PM

well, this probably wont help considering it doesnt export the sound file, but Vista has a built in text to speech thing.
  1. Go to control panel
  2. Click on classic view
  3. click on text to speech
  4. here you can choose the voice and speed, then enter some text and click preview voice
If you wanted to you could get some sort of audio editing software that records, such as audacity, start recording, preview the chosen text as above, stop recording, trim it to the right length, morph it/ use effects/ mix audio if you want then there are loads of sound export options.

AT&T has an experimental software that converts text to speech really nicely. It even lets you save it. Sadly it says not to distribute it.

Here's the link:

Also, I found a free software, with only the Microsoft voice, but it allows you to save:

You're *such* a mac person.

It's built into XP too. Do a search for Narrator and it should be there. Heck, it was built into 2000, dude.

Very cool idea! Experimental stuff's the best cause it's more likely to give you super powers.

Thanks. I actually went out and downloaded two media encoders after reading your idea. Haven't used them yet, but I'm sure I will.
