This is your lucky day. I figured it out, and the results are very interesting.
As it turns out, a texture is apparently nothing more than a jpeg file.
Start a new world and select the sand template.
Position the camera so that the sand fills the entire view.
Run the world and take a picture, which will be saved somewhere on your computer as a jpeg file.
Load the world that needs the sand texture. I assume that you want it to be on the ground. Select the properties window on the ground, open the Texture Maps menu at the bottom of the window and and click the import texture map button.
Specify the jpeg file that you just saved.
Then go back up to the properties item titled skin texture. Open the pulldown list and select the new texture that you just added to your world.
Note the cool texture that I stretched onto the ground in the attached picture of a world.
