Default Beginning pose keeps changing - 07-06-2008, 03:46 PM

Hi
I hope this isn't a dumb question but I just can't figure it out. I have a beginning pose that sets the camera where I want it. But then, when I create a new pose for a different part of the scene, the first pose changes to that new pose. I'm not sure what to do to keep the beginning pose in place so that it always starts from the same point of view. Help?

Thanks!

I'm always a believer in that the only dumb question is the one you don't ask - but in this case you answered your own question - think that really qualifies it as a smart one.

All a "pose" does is set the relative locations and orientations of the parts of an object. You still need to move the object to a location and orientation with respect to the camera.

Talking Starting Camera - 07-15-2008, 01:40 PM

I had the exact same problem. I tried the "Save Pose" option for the camera but found that when I changed my point of view to add other objects to the scene and then hit play; it just started from where my current camera was. That's why I went and choose a small object, like a Bopper from the amusement park category and placed it where I wanted my started camera to be. Then under the "my.worlds.first.method" (or whatever it is called) I just told the camera to start its point of view from the Bopper and the duration for like .1 seconds so it wouldn't be noticeable, and then the entire thing would play out just as I wanted, while I could move my "real" camera around to change the world and add objects safetly without disrupting the position of the start of the movie/game.

You can also use "dummy" objects - most text and Dick Baldwin's tutorials describe this approach.

The advantage is that the "dummies" only have location and orientation information so they take less memory and you don't have to set "is showing" to false. The disadvantage is that sometimes they are less easy to see and position than real objects.
