Default How to make a character sit down? - 09-21-2010, 12:41 PM

Hi, new to the forums and new to Alice 2.2. The only thing I can't get is how to make a character sit down. I've tried using all the default methods in which one of them says "stand up" but I'm wondering how to make it sit down.

Just think about what happens when you sit down. First of all, are they sitting on a chair or on the ground.

Together

Torso lowers toward ground x meters
Knees bend outward 45 degrees

etc.

That stand up method isn't a stand up animation, it simply orients the character so that it is upright. For example, if you had a penguin's head turn backwards 0.1 revolutions to look upwards, making the head stand up would turn it back down so that it's level with the ground.

For most default character models (some may have weird pivots, depending on how it's been imported):

Do Together
person.rightleg turn backward 0.25 revolutions
person.leftleg turn backward 0.25 revolutions
person.rightleg.lowerleg turn forward 0.25 revolutions
person.leftleg.lowerleg tun forward 0.25 revolutions
person move down 1 meter (this may be different, depending on how big your character model is)

Howdy. I'm not sure how to make it look good for an animation, but the attached world might work. You may need to adjust durations and movement distances.

The two above posters were faster than me, but they are both correct as well.

Aaahaa! What you must do is move each individual part to where it looks like he/she is sitting down, since there isn't simply a method to sit. I'll do the same for walking, as they're sliding everywhere. I guess it would be something like:

Do Together:
Leftleg move forward 2 meters,
Upperbody move forward 2 meters
and etc...

No, don't have the subparts "move," have them turn and roll.
Moving will make the subpart actually detach from the body, since that'd be telling it to move in 3d space, whereas turning and rolling just rotates the subpart on its pivot, and would be what you're looking for in terms of animation.
