Adding audio to animations and games can make a huge difference in creating the mood, amplifying story and interactions moments to build dynamic interest curves, and can be a great way to give feedback on interactions. Successful use of audio can add depth to experiences and improve levels of immersion. Incorporating or even starting with a piece of audio can also be a great source of inspiration for guiding the creative process such as animating music videos.
The Alice 2 and Alice 3 platforms allow the inclusion of audio into your worlds using the playAudio command. Alice is able to execute .wav and .mp3 formatted audio files.
The Alice team has crafted a free library intended to be a starting place for finding helpful audio for background music to add rich ambient sounds to your worlds, musical cues to help punctuate and lead up to events, and a sound effect library for everything in between.
Alice 3 includes the base library of sounds with the software download. They are provided here in case they have been modified or deleted and you want to download them again.
Also available for download is our Sound Library Expansion Pack One that includes a lot of great locomation sound effects for boats, cars, planes, swimmers, flyers, bipeds and quadrupeds, and some additional scaling and collision sound effects.
We plan to continue to add more sounds in the future so check back for new content to match our growing art gallery.
This library of sounds was created by members of the Alice Project and are made available as a royalty free resources to be used for educational and recreational uses in Alice 2 and Alice 3 projects. All sounds in the Alice Sound Library are in the public domain.
These sounds should work in both Alice 2 and Alice 3. If you find any problems with any of these sounds, please inform the Alice Project.
We appreciate the countless hours of dedication and hard work needed to create these sounds.
.wav and .mp3 formatted audio files can be created in a wide variety of audio editors. Alice has experienced some difficulty with some .mp3 files. Using another audio editor to export the file to .mp3 will often resolve the problem.
One audio program that the Alice Project has found to be particularly helpful is the open source project Audacity. Note that you will have to add a plugin in order to export audio files to .mp3 format. There are links and instructions at the Audacity web site for adding the .mp3 plugin.
