Default How to edit textures - 12-21-2008, 09:32 PM

Is it possible to open a character or object texture and alter it using photoshop or paint? If so, how would yo go about doing that?

If you open up paint or photoshop then import a picture, you can browse to where Alice is stored and look inside the required folder. In that folder should be another folder called textures. Right there is where you SHOULD be able to get the textures from, just make sure to save as instead of save over, you don't want to erase your original texture.

Admittedly, I've never tried this, so I'm not 100% sure, but in theory it should work, there's no reason for it not to. Tell me how it works out.

I can't find the folder. If I click on the Alice folder and click on required, the following folders are contained:

etc
exampleWorlds
externalLib
gallery
jre1.3.1_10_win32
jython-2.1
lib
optionalPackagesLib
resources
sounds
templateWorlds
tutorial
tutorialWorlds

I have looked in these folders and see nothing that has anything to do with textures. Am I missing something blatantly obvious? (probable)

K I didn't find the folder I thought was there (must have been earlier, when I extracted the files from one of my worlds to fix a glitch). But you can do what I just said: extract the files from an object in the Gallery folder under Required. This should give you a folder titled texture, which definitely (i tested it) contains a .png version of the texture of the object.

Do I have to extract in the right way or something because I right clicked on the "RandomGuy2.a2c" file and and clicked on "Send to" and made it into a zip file. Then I extracted the zip file to my desktop and only the "RandomGuy2.a2c" file appeared, nothing else. Am I doing something wrong?

You have to extract the file directly. I used a program called 7-zip to extract all files. It looks like you need a similar program, something that extracts files better than Windows.

Or, you can trick Windows Unzip Wizard into thinking it's already a zip file by right clicking the file, then clicking rename, then replacing the.a2c at the end with .zip, then asking Windows Unzip Wiard to Extract All by right-clicking it agian and going to the Extract All option. (Warning, this may or may not work, depending on how good your installation of Windows is)

It works, but the PNG file is not the skin of the character, it is the thumbnail. It is picture that you see of the person in the library when you click on it. There has to be a way to edit the skins.

I just did it and the texture is there, right under a folder called texture.

No problem!
