We are trying to create a full library of content that can be used for the most common how to tutorials related to doing this in the Alice software. This includes everything from how to install the software to simple tutorials on all of the different interface components and features as well as tips and tricks to implementing different animation and interactive elements. These can be used by instructors to learn best practices or directly accessed by creators to answer specific question on demand. They generally will include a video and text directions as well as downloadable documents for printing quick reference materials.
Lessons are intended to be stand alone units that cover broader concepts or skills. We have tried to make them as simple and modular as possible so that there is the most flexibility possible for mixing and matching to create different length and depth curriculums from these lessons. Lessons include a facilitation guide outlining different options for running the lesson , lecture and presentation materials, reference to all the supporting how to content needed to apply the lesson to Alice, optional assessment materials, and links to relevant Exercises and Projects.
Exercises and Projects are ideas for in class assignments or longer curricular based project learning options. They can range from simple skills applications to longer projects that are designed to span multiple lessons or a full project based curriculum. You can find a range of ideas and themes to help you apply your skills or challenge students.
The Alice project as well as several partner organizations offer a variety of professional development opportunities for teachers to get support in learning Alice and how to implement it in your classroom. There are also more and more organizations offering Alice workshops and programming outside of schools in camps and community events directly to interested students. Be sure to check this page often as more opportunities will be added as we learn about them.
Our modular lesson content can be mixed and matched to fit your needs. This section outlines some options for different lengths and depths of engagement to help you get started offering Alice or integrate it into existing offerings. We have also included additional curriculum mapping resources for specific courses and standards mapping.
The Alice software comes with a number of audio files provided but we have also created and are sharing a number of additional resources for free usage as well providing other materials on how to create your own. Including Audio in Alice worlds can add a great layer of immersion and serve as the creative spark for many unique projects like music videos.
